Mark has a way of putting paint on the canvas in a big way and enjoys the challenges of a mural artist. Grafton Notch is one of several winter scenes he has done and this large painting is of the Sunday River Skiing area of Maine. This area is very popular for skiers all over the country. Near the Bethel area there are a variety of things to do but we go there just to see the beauty of the mountains, find new painting subjects, and to cross country ski. On our website you will see other paintings of this area including Sunday River. If you're in the area remember to check out Tom White's Sculpture Gallery. He and his wife, Marcey, also own a beautiful bed and breakfast called The Prodigal Inn.

![]() Details of mural 'Grafton Notch' shows White Mountains in the background. The easier passageway over the mountain range near Newry, Maine is not the focus of Grafton Notch. the sky above, the earth below, the barn and the fields subjugated by mankind are central to this wintry scene. There is a 'sense' of elevation as the fast moving clouds race closely overhead, as well as a sense of peace. Stiff stubble in the foreground portends Spring's promised regeneration. The blue of cold snow cannot cancel the light's power to come. Mountains as a back drop create a sense of being nestled in a pleasant place to live. At 3 1/2'x5', "Grafton Notch" is a moderate, mural sized painting. |
